Month One in the Books - Thanks Forsyth!
Hello Bakery Fans - Another nutty Saturday is history and I don't think I have laughed so hard since we opened. It's
a holiday weekend and you guys sure are in a good mood! (We are too, having 2 days off is a blessing and we need the rest!)
We are going to be 1 month old on Tuesday the 4th and we say THANK YOU Forsyth County once again for making this such a blessing
for us!
We added a page to the website today wanting to share some of your wonderful compliments, suggestions and
rants about your favorite new bakery. You are our success so read on and see what your neighbors and fellow Forsythians think!
We will be taking it easy on Monday, Labor Day and we hope you will too. Our cinnamon hearts and chocolate prayers
are with the Gulf Coast these next few days as Gustav heads that way.

Rolling Stones...no, not those old guys who tour
Hello Bakery Fans...
Thanks for the phone calls and emails...yes I was in the hospital for kidney stones late Monday
night into Tuesday and yes we had to close up early because poor Dan was here by himself and had had no sleep. But, I am fine.
Unfortunately kidney stones are part of the usual for me. However I sincerely appreciate all the emails and THANK YOU to the
awesome overnight staff at Northside Forsyth - Joy, Christie and the gang. Please stop by when you guys aren't working.
(I promise I look better with make-up on and not writhing in pain!) My CT Scan on my kidneys was amazing...so many stones
stuck in there it looks like a Disco Ball!! (Anyone have Denny Terrio on speed dial? Oh my, if you have to ask who that is
maybe I am getting too old. Those of you who are fans of the 70's movie classic "Saturday Night Fever" and the
subsequent TV hit "Dance Fever" will know who the aforementioned Mr. Terrio is!)
Thanks to those who
have written in to tell us what you want this holiday season so be looking for Pumpkin Pie, Autumn Cake, Gingerbread Men and
a few other goodies we think you will love. Holy cow its almost September...it will be here before you know it.
Just another reminder that we will be closed and taking a day off on Monday, Labor Day. My feet will thank me...

We're Gonna Be Famous....(well...sorta')
Hey all -
A quick post script to my earlier blog post. We just found out we are getting mentioned on WGST-640 morning
radio show on Thursday September 4th at 8:50 am. The Weekend Dish with Helen Cauley and David Hull will mention
your favorite bakery around 8:50am on the Randy Cook show.
You can raise your hand during the broadcast and say,
"Hey, I know these people!"

Who Turned Out the Lights???
Hello Bakery Fans...Well those of you who got here at the recommended 9 am on Saturday as we unlocked found us standing around
bewildered as the power had gone out on the whole block in downtown Cumming. (Our awesome customers from neighboring Sienna
down the street had no power either.) So there we were, doughnuts hot and ready to go and cornbread warm and yummy and the
banana bread steaming up the glass case...but no air, no power and no computer terminal. Worst of all; no power for the ovens.
However, not to be deterred you came in and offered cash and still walked out with boxes in all your happy doughnut
glow. Thanks for your patience with the "old fashioned" way of figuring up totals by calculator. The power came
back after an hour and we were off to the races. Another busy Saturday...a few more blisters.
So - an important
note; we will be CLOSED for Labor Day. (The Rebel Baker needs to "Labor" and put her feet up.)
We will add some signage to the front but you heard it here first, we will be closed on Monday.
So what do you
want to see now that cooler weather is upon us? (wishful thinking....) We are already dreaming of Gingerbread Men and hot
Apple Pie...How about hot apple cider?
Tell us what you think....it will be here before you know it.

Doughnut Disco and the Saturday Crowd...
Hello Bakery Fans...
Well we have to say THANK YOU Forsyth, Hall and Dawson county for your patronage!
You guys are the best...we had a huge line right at 9 am when we unlocked this past Saturday
and I was truly amazed at the parking lot scramble, the laughter and giggles in the line when Dan and I kept crashing into
each other as I carried piping hot doughnuts fresh dipped in chocolate out to the floor. But we made it...and we managed to
not run out of food! (Friday had us closing for a few hours as we had completely SOLD OUT of food yet again. )
To
answer a few common questions I get in email - yes, I really do get up in the middle of the night to go and make doughnuts
and eclairs. (Sleep is WAY overrated!!) No, we do not have a tip jar and we won't have one. Your repeat business and satisfaction
is all we care about and unlike our friends at the Federal Government, we want you to keep your hard-earned money except to
spend what you need to... when you need to. (Hopefully on sweet treats!) But we are flattered you want to tip us; its not
necessary. Yes, the newspaper article was great (although it is the absolute WORST photo of me ever...now I know what
I will use in target practice...eegads!!) And yes, that cute blonde lady buzzing around in the kitchen with me is indeed
my mother, Nancy. The namesake of the "Nancy's Big Stick Buttermilk Poundcake" and the gorgeous woman in
the photo in the parlor in the green dress. (Miss Fayetteville, N.C. Beauty Pageant - 1960-something...)
My
grandma would whack me with a whisk if I did not mention that we are planning a TASTING PARTY very soon. One of our very smart
and on-the-ball customers had a great idea about hosting a tasting party one evening for our customers to allow everyone to
sample all our goodies. In addition it will help us announce our Friday and Saturday night "Dessert Date" hours
of operation. (Coming in September - Stay Tuned!)
Oh and two very funny ladies suggested a wine menu and limited
alcohol offering on Fridays and Saturdays. While I am dreaming of a Margarita Machine in the kitchen and an Apple Martini
drip in the back office, I am seriously considering a partial alcohol menu for Friday and Saturday nights. (Pending the proper
permits, of course.) So be thinking of what wine goes with Chocolate Density and I will let you know....

You Like Us...You Really Like Us...
For our customers who have awakened from the Food Coma you got after our sugary delights we want to thank you again for making
this the very best week of our life. Dan and I have pinched ourselves and each other waiting for someone to wake us up from
this incredible first week.
Sure we disappointed a few of you because we had sold out what you wanted but many
of you have discovered the power of the web and the power of ordering online for in-store pick-up which guarantees your favorite
ready for you when you want it. We are astonished at the response and blessed and grateful for the many new friends we have
collected and the laughs we have had this week. We hope to be your bakers for a long time to come.
And although
I can count on two hands how many hours of sleep I have had this week - I can say that even at my most exhausted is far better
than my greatest day in the corporate rat race!! (although the girly-girl in me sure does miss wearing my hair down and
a having a skirt on...I guess there is always church...)
We sold out of food each and every day this week - your
feedback has been amazing and incredibly motivating and your suggestions have been quite good.
Saturday will be
fun as you guys have more time to hang around - but get here early; we are selling out as fast as we can make it. Be smart
and order online or call ahead...we'll make it work!

THANK YOU Forsyth County!!!!
Hello Bakery Fans -
Dan and I are incredibly humbled and stunned at the response from all of you in our first two days.
Wow! We were so afraid we would be sitting around whistlin' Dixie by ourselves that we underestimated your need for sugary
goodness.
Thank you for your support, your kind words, your patience when we sold out of things and also your understanding
when we fat-fingered the register or some other goof. We looked like the Keystone Cops the first two days bumping into each
other and running around like idiots. The blisters on my feet are to be gawked at and likely seen from space. But, worth every
bit of it...
Thanks to those who have emailed us or done the feedback form. (You guys are way too kind..thank you!)
We read every email and take all feedback seriously.
Yes, I will make more skillet cornbread....in fact - bacon
is done now, gotta go!

Bar Is Open!!!!
Uhh...well wishful thinking maybe. The bakery is open. We got our first customer right at 7 am (thanks Miss Lisa!) and it
has been pretty steady all morning.
The super-duper-stealth-bomber cash register mentioned a few posts earlier gave us
some fits first thing...but all is well.
We have practically sold out of doughnuts already and the eclairs are also going
fast.
(The doughnuts look a little bloated and funny - kind of like myself, actually) But the taste is great.
So belly on up to the counter and get some! We are open!!

Operation Monday Red Eye!
Hello Bakery Fans - We open for business August 4th and a darned good reason to get up a little earlier on Monday! We are
pretty much ready to go with baking to commence on Sunday (all day Sunday...and likely Sunday Sunday night too - yikes!)
We have had so many nice people stop by and wish us well, ask for a menu and just introduce themselves. It has been great.
Georgia people are the best in the world...
We have had some inquiries over the past few days, but no we are not
hiring right now as this is truly a "Mom and Pop" operation, (Mom, Pop, and our three friends; tired feet,
bags under the eyes and hunger pains!) I swear I look like I have grocery bags under my eyes. This ought to look really great
for pictures on Sunday. (Yep, we will have to clean up for photos...is it too late for a stunt double?)
I took
an Elvis Cake to Forsyth Sherrif's Department yesterday with some menus...I hope they enjoyed it. (And will remember me
next time I go speeding down 400!) Who doesn't love peanut butter, banana and chocolate?
See you Monday!
