Be Young - Be Foolish - But Be Happy
Hello Bakery Fans - We have officially set a date for opening of August 4th (the first Monday of the month.) We had hoped for August 1st but a few delays on food orders (apparently EVERYONE needs coconut!) and last minute scrambles did not seem to work in our favor. That's ok, we have plenty to do between now and then. (So says Dan)  The deliveries are coming daily of supplies and things we need - I think perhaps the UPS guy is pretty sick of us! (Today we got 14 boxes each over 25 pounds - yeah he loves us!) We also have our point-of-sale machine installed; it's this really advanced super-duper-stealth-bomber-Mac-Daddy cash register system that does everything but the dishes. We feel so "official." We are able to take cash, check, charge, debit cards and our own gift cards.

Pretty sweet, eh?

Taking cupcakes over to the Icon All-Stars Cheerleading choreography "boot camp" today. (Hi girls!) A new competition season is upon us...time for sugar-laden encouragement!

Squeezing the Trigger...
So another week has gone by but we are making critical progress. We made it through hurdles for the Fire Department, Planning & Zoning and Department of Agriculture (the sanitary inspection - insert "scary music" here...)
So we are just wrapping up with Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Supression and a few other odds and ends. Lo and behold we think the end is in sight and it is looking good for August 1st.
It felt good to have the air on in the house today (Dan has preferred to "sweat it out" so far to save on A/C costs) and things are shoring up.
Got some of those sassy and sarcastic signs hung today. It sure feels good to be sassy and not worry about some office idiot telling you to take it down because it might "offend" some nameless, faceless someone.
I hefted a 40 pound bag of flour yesterday; you know I thought I was pretty strong for "my age" however, maybe thats why I am not strong enough. Ha ha..

Just a few weeks and counting...
Hello Bakery Fans and our hometown of Cumming, GA! We are just a few short weeks of opening The Laughing Elephant. We have been busier than a beer booth at Road Atlanta getting things ready and keeping the Fire Inspector and City Officials happy and informed. (Did I mention just how handsome our City officials are?) It sure is hot enough outside but the fans whirl and the mixers swirl as we do last minute taste tests, refinement and plenty of sampling for your new Southern Bakery.

We just love this old house and cleaning it up and giving it a fresh coat of paint has been fun to do. (Well, Dan may have another opinion about how "fun" it was...) At any rate we are shaking the pots, pans and paperwork in preparation for throwing those doors open.

Stay tuned...
